Past Conference in brief
The first International Conference on Apparel,Textiles & Fashion Design ICATFD' 2015, took place on 19th November 2015 at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka. It provided opportunity for designers, academics and business from the apparel sector to share knowledge and discuss the issues facing industry. New designers were able to show their innovative and high crafted outfits at a fashion runway show. Conference speakers, new designers and delegates all benefited from the knowledge exchange and building new connections for future collaborations.

The conference captured the zeitgeist of the current mood of our global apparel industry with every area of life and technology changing at an ever faster pace. The old world order and rules are now broken, not working and new ways and solutions are needed.

Janet Best, Fashion colour management specialist - Colour Consultant / natific AG CCol FSDCC Text ATI, delivered the key Notepaper “Tomorrows Colours Today – Challenging the Tradition”. Key messages of the industries need to use digital colour communication and control more in order to operate more sustainably. Technology allowed us to be connected and transparent in our supply chains for better quality decision making at the point of making. He highlighted the technology and systems now in place that successfully support efficiency and trust in a collaborative supply chain. A total closed loop system from planet to designer to production and customer. As fast customized fashion is predicted to become increasingly important, then Best was able to demonstrate that only through fully using digital colour would fast customised be possible. This set the tone for the conference day where international professionals from Turkey, Dubai, Pakistan, South Africa, UK, Africa, India and beyond presented their papers covering education, skills, environment, statistics, chemistry design and much more.

Muhammad Fawad Noori, Choreographer and Creative Design Head, GIFT University, Pakistan, led in the management of the fashion show held in the evening of the conference day. It was a spectacular event which bursting with vibrancy in both designs and the colour palettes shown. With over 100 outfits shown from 18 designers, the energy and excitement never dropped for a moment. Following a successful day of technical papers and innovation discussions and a high power fashion show of exciting deigns, the following day delegates continued to make new friends while enjoying day touring the coastline to see the beautiful scenery and enjoy some of the culture of Sri Lanka.
